Light Up the Old Bank

December 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee (CCRC) has recently taken ownership of the Old Bank in Riverside Albert.  This is an iconic structure which has survived 2 relocations and the largest bank robbery in New Brunswick’s history; but its most significant history lies in what it has meant to the people of Albert County.  Generations before us relied on the Bank of New Brunswick, later the Bank of Nova Scotia, to provide advice, support and structure to our community.  The older generations remember it for its social value as well–the monthly or by-weekly visit to the bank to cash pay cheques and pay bills was a chance to chat with old friends and catch up on the goings on of the village–a highlight of rural life.

CCRC wants to carry on the legacy of local historians Mary Majka and David Christie to preserve this historic structure and to see it repurposed to again provide focus in our municipality and in our daily lives.

Please consider a donation to Light Up the Bank this Christmas season.   Your contribution will help to keep the lights on and the building heated  to prevent further deterioration.  We can’t do it without you! Your sponsorship will be recognized through the CCRC website and on Connecting Albert County.

Donations can be made by e-transfer, through our website or directly to a CCRC Board Member.

Light Up the Bank, a community event will take place Sunday December 6 at 6 p.m.  at the Old Bank parking lot. Hot chocolate and treats will be provided.    Please help us to keep the light shining out of our Old Bank and into our community.

With hope for the revitalization of our community…
